Elm - Rough Lumber
Elm - Rough Lumber
Elm is a light to medium reddish brown wood. Its paler sapwood is generally well defined. The grain is nested (which makes it very resistant to splitting). With a somewhat coarse and uneven texture, elm has small to medium pores.
Elm can be a challenge to work with due to the interlocking grain. Planing can cause tears and / or blurry surfaces. It responds well to steam bending and holds nails and screws well. It is used for boxes, baskets, furniture, hockey sticks, veneer, and other projects.
Elm works, sticks and reacts very well to finishing products.
